Over 70s to Benefit from Reduced Heating Bills

As part of the government scheme to reduce carbon emission, people over 70 can now claim free cavity wall and loft insulation that would substantially reduce their heating bills. The government has launched the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) as a scheme to ensure large utility companies are helping the government to meet its targets. All energy savings schemes can now offer free cavity wall and loft insulation for free to people over 70. This saving was previously only offered to people on benefits.Insulating your loft and your cavity wall can save £250 off your heating bills and around 3 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. Many plumbers and heating engineers that are owner-managers of their plumbing & heating companies were left confused and disappointed with the latest revision to the capital gains tax (CGT) published by Alistair Darling, the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 25th January 2008. The new tax regime will become effective in April 2008.Thousands of ordinary investors will face higher taxes on their profit, though small companies, such as plumbers and heating engineers will benefit from the revised capital gains tax. After immense pressure from organisations representing small companies, the government has announced that the first £1 million of any gains would be taxed at 10 per cent, rather than 18 per cent.
